1/8/26 Energy Star Update
The House passed a group of 3 spending bills today that included the Interior & Environment spending bill which contains funding for Energy Star program.
Specifically, HR 6938 includes this language on page 302:
That of amounts made available for Environmental Programs and Management, not less than $33,024,000 is to carry out the Energy Star Program pursuant to section 324(c) of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (42 U.S.C. 6294a(c))
This is big, as it is the first time the appropriators have put in the bill text a line item for Energy Star [this will make it easier to fight for their funding in the future] and they also identified the public law that authorizes the funding [giving it more legitimacy]. Finally, when many other programs are getting cut, this one was funded at prior year levels. [Which is a win.]
Next step
The Senate is expected to take up the mini-bus spending bill package next week. It is expected to pass.
